Huckleberry Finn

“You lemme catch you fooling around that school again, you hear. I’ll tan you good.” The dad in the story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a very evil man. He forbids Huck Finn from going to school. He also left his young son knowing that his mother had died. To top things off he is an abusive alcoholic.

Huckleberry Finn’s dad does not let him go to school because he doesn’t want Huck to be better than him. Huck’s dad thinks that if Huck goes to school he will become a smarty-pants. He wants Huck to be dumb just like him.

In the beginning of the story you hear little about Hucks pap. That is because Huckleberry Finn dad left and abandoned his young son whose mother died before his dad left. He did not want to take care of his responsibilities. Hucks wished his father were dead.

When Huck’s father drinks he abuses Huck. He threatens Huck all the time to make his bottom tan, and to cowhide him. He throws Huck’s books so that he can’t read. He abuses Huck constantly

In conclusion the dad in the story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is a terrible father. He is an abusive alcoholic. He left his family and forbid Huck to go to school. You should be glad your not Huck Finn.

How I feel About The Election

The night that Barack Obama won the Presidential Election, I was in my grandmothers’ room and she started crying. That’s when it hit me, after all the struggling that African Americans have went through, we finally have a Black President. I felt very passionate about this election not only because he is black but because he is going to give America the change that we have needed for a long time. I can’t wait until he is officially put in the White House. God Bless America

She kept asking, and when she was 18 he allowed her to volunteer with the Auxiliary Territorial Service, where she was trained to drive and repair heavy transport vehicles, although she was not allowed to do much of the actual driving and repair work. She trained as a driver, and drove a military truck while she served, making her the first, and so far only, female member of the Royal Family to actively serve in the armed forces, although every monarch is nominally the Commander-in-Chief of both the British and Canadian Armed Forces, and other royal women have been given honorary ranks. This training was the first time Elizabeth had been taught along with other students, and it was said[by whom? that she greatly enjoyed the experience, which led her to send her own children to school rather than have them educated at home.

At the end of the war in Europe, on VE Day, Elizabeth and her sister stole away from Buckingham Palace and talked with the celebratory crowds after midnight. Two years later, the Princess made her first official overseas tour, when she accompanied her parents to South Africa. It was there that she had her 21st birthday, when she made a broadcast to the British Commonwealth, say "I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong."

Fourth Queen Elizabeth 2 Post

In 1977, the Queen's Silver Jubilee was celebrated in the United Kingdom and throughout the Commonwealth. Accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen traveled some 56,000 miles to share the anniversary with her people. 2002 marked the 50th anniversary of The Queen's Accession to the Throne. Only five other British monarchs had previously achieved this milestone: Henry III, Edward III, James I, George III and Queen Victoria.
This is a quote from Queen Elizabeth the second herself

“We lost the American colonies because we lacked the
statesmanship to know the right time and the manner
of yielding what is impossible to keep.” -Elizabeth II

Beyond The Line Essay Question

“If you come back into this house without those groceries, I’ll whip you.” The mother in the story “The Night I Won the Right to the Streets of Memphis” by Richard Wright and Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones in “Thank You M’am” by Langton Hughes are the same in many ways. They both change small boys’ lives. They both are stern and forceful. Also they both send the boys into the world a different person.

First, the mom in “The Night I Won the Right to the Streets of Memphis” sent her son, Richard, out to get some groceries. It was the first time he had ever went by himself. After the second time a gang of boys jumped him and stole all of his money she forced him to go out and fight. She wouldn’t let him in until he got her groceries. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones did the same to Roger. She fed him, cleaned him, and sent him out into the world with ten dollars and a changed heart. “I ran up the steps tried to force my way past her into the house. A stinging slap came on my jaw.”

Secondly they are both very stern and very forceful. Richard’s mother forced him into being a violent child who for the first time in his life hit people with sticks and yelled at adults. She forced him out of his environment. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones forced Roger to become a better person. She made him change his evil ways to act how a good boy should act. She led him down the hall to the front door and opened it. “Good Night! Behave yourself, boy!” she said looking out into the street as he went down the steps.

Last but not least they both send the boys into the world a different person. Richard’s mom sends him out to the world a sweet young boy turned into a disrespectful young man. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones turns Roger from a disrespectful young boy to a clean cut young man.

In conclusion the mother from “The Night I Won the Right to the Streets of Memphis” and Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones from “Thank You M’am” are similar in many ways. “By the time I’m through with you your going to remember Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones

Second Queen Elizabeth Blog

Elizabeth has managed to maintain a division between her public and private life. She is the first monarch to send her children to boarding schools in order to remove them from the ever-probing media. She has a strong sense of duty and diligence and dispatches her queenly business with great candor, efficiency and dignity. Her knowledge of current situations and trends is uncannily up to date, often to the embarrassment of her Prime Ministers. Harold Wilson, upon his retirement, remarked, "I shall certainly advise my successor to do his homework before his audience." Churchill, who had served four monarchs, was impressed and delighted by her knowledge and wit. She possesses a sense of humor rarely exhibited in public where a dignified presence is her goal.

Thank You M'am

Mr. Romero please grade me on my transitions and my voice.

“I wouldn’t take you no where with that dirty face.” The most important part of “Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes are the characters. They really bring the story to reality, and cause you to relate to the characters.

The character Roger in the story “Thank You M’am” by Langston Hughes is a very misguided boy. He would risk his life just for society to accept him. Roger is a skinny teenage boy with nappy and a dirty face. He lives a life theft until he meets Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. “ By the time I’m through with you, your going to remember Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones.”

Secondly there is Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. She is a large woman with a large purse. She is very interesting to me because she reminds me of my grandmother. She’s going to help someone rather they like it or not. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones took Roger to her house and gave him a life changing experience. She was like the mother that Roger needed in his life.

I fell in love with the characters when Roger and Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones sat down at the dinner table and had a heart to heart. Its like for a short time they are family. It is at the dinner table that Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones reveals she had somewhat of a bad past. “ I've done things that I am not going to tell you, I wouldn’t tell God if he didn’t already know.” They really relate to each other. Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones becomes the mother that Roger needed. And Roger became a lost boy that needed her to put him in the right direction.

To wrap things up the most important part of “Thank You M’am,” by Langston Hughes are the characters. They can be compared to everyday people, who go through everyday problems. They are very realistic, and down to earth. The characters show how a bad situation can turn into a life changing experience. You never know the person you bump into may change your life.

I Will Graduate In 2012

Mr. Romero can you please grade me on my intro/conclusion and my voice.

Get off my back! I will definitely graduate in 2012, to get my family off of mine. “You better finish school and become successful, so that I don’t have to work anymore.” That’s something my mom always says. My family is my biggest inspiration. They always encourage me to graduate, go to college, and be successful.

My next step is college. Graduating from high school is the easy part. I would love to go to Harvard Law School, and since my family can’t afford it I have to work very hard. Scholarships will help me be able to go to my dream school. Harvard Law School would be an excellent source of education.

Secondly after graduating from college, I will be a successful lawyer. I have not decided what kind of lawyer I want to be, but I know I want to be known. I plan on never losing a case.

On the other I would like to further my success and become a judge. But not just any just any judge, I want to be a Supreme Court Judge, just like my idol, Thurgood Marshall. I did not want to be a Supreme Court Judge until I researched him.

In conclusion I will graduate in 2012 to make my family proud, to go to college, and be successful. I hope you do the same. Now I have to go study to reach my dream.

Service Learnig

To me service learning is learning skills to help you succeed in every day life. It is a way to help our environment, and also others. You can tutor someone that needs help in school , teach a child a game, or just spend time with someone that needs a friend. Volunteering is an excellent source of service learning. You can perform service learning by picking up trash, recycling, and by making sure your neighborhood is always clean. If I had to pick any form of service learning to perform I would volunteer at rec center. Hopefully I will get to do that.

Election 2008

During my research about the Presidential Election for the year 2008, I took a quiz to see which candidate I agreed with more. As I expected I agree with Barack Obama seventy-eight percent of the time. I only agreed with John McCain forty-one percent of the time, which to me is not enough for my vote. My whole family are die-hard democrats and Barack Obama has showed me why. I have watched speeches by John McCain and have understand how he feels about certain things, but at the same time watching Barack Obama makes me angry that I am not old enough to vote for him.

America needs a president that is for change. Barack Obama is that president . John McCain wants America to stay the same. With him as our president it would be like having Bush in office for another four years. To me the biggest issues in the election are abortion and the War in Iraq. I believe that these issues are very important and are worth talking about.

Barack Obama feels that abortion should not be banned by the government. He calls abortion rights "not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women." Obama has said that one more conservative Supreme Court appointee could overturn Roe v. Wade and he has suggested that he will appoint judges who will protect "women's fundamental right to choose." He says he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act, which would guarantee abortion rights "before fetal viability" across the country and invalidate many individual state laws that restrict access to abortion. Obama has said that he trusts women "to make these decisions in conjunction with their doctors and their families and their clergy." He feels that the government should not have the power to tell a woman what she can and can not do with her body.

John McCain supports allowing abortion only in cases of rape, incest, or risk to the mother's life, and he support a constitutional amendment to ban abortion nationwide in all other cases. He says he supports the "rights of the unborn" and hopes that women seeking abortions will instead "bring those children into life in this world." McCain wants Roe v. Wade to be overturned -- he believes the decision is an example of judges legislating from the bench, and he say he would appoint judges who do not legislate from the bench. McCain also opposes the Freedom of Choice Act, a bill that would invalidate many state restrictions on abortion.

Barack Obama wants to bring our troops home. Under Obama's plan, withdrawal from Iraq would begin immediately and all combat brigades would leave within 16 months. Obama would leave a residual force of undetermined size to "strike at al Qaeda in Iraq" and "protect U.S. diplomats and facilities," but says this would not be a permanent force. He would not support building a permanent base in Iraq, and says that we should abide by Prime Minister Maliki's recent request for a withdrawal timetable. On withdrawal, Obama says that we must be as "careful getting out as we were careless getting in." He says that he would "pursue a diplomatic offensive with every nation in the region" to help stabilize Iraq, and that he would also spend $2 billion on aid for Iraqi refugees. Obama argues that withdrawal from Iraq will allow us to commit more troops to Afghanistan.

John McCain thinks that we should keep our troops in Iraq. McCain believes that "we are winning" in Iraq, and that "if we fail in Iraq, we'll see Iraq become a center for al Qaeda, chaos, genocide in the region, and they'll follow us home." He has compared premature withdrawal to "surrender," and defines victory as when Iraq is a stable democracy. He says that reducing violence in Iraq and "building a capable Iraqi army" will help lead to a political settlement. McCain says he hopes and expects that the war will be over and most troops will be home by 2013. However, he also says that he would not withdraw until Iraq is a stable democracy, implying that he would support U.S. engagement beyond then if violence continued. Recently, he has said that most troops "could" be out of Iraq by 2010, and that a 16-month timetable is "good" as long as it's based on conditions on the ground.

I am not writing this paper to persuade you to vote for Barack Obama, nor am I writing this essay to stop you from voting for John McCain. I am however giving you true facts about the Presidential candidates of the 2008 election. The choice is up to you, that is why America is so great. A country where you can vote for who ever you want into any office. But please do your research before you vote.

Election 2008 Issues On Abortion

During my research I found out that Barack Obama and I have the same view on abortion
e believes "A woman's ability to decide .
H
it is taking a way a woman's right to do what ever she feels is best involving her body. how many children to have and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess. It is not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women." I believe that every woman no matter what the situation is, should be able to have an abortion with out the governments say so. I also feel that
John McCain said he had come to the conclusion that the exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother are legitimate exceptions to an outright ban on abortions. "I don't claim to be a theologian, but I have my moral beliefs." If Roe v. Wade is overturned and abortion outlawed, McCain said he believes doctors who performed abortions would be prosecuted. "But I would not prosecute a woman" who obtained an abortion. I strongly disagree with McCain.

If I could vote I would definitely vote for Barack Obama. I feel that are views are very similar if not the same. He shares the same issues as me. And his strategy to fix the issues are very intelligent to me. Barack Obama is my candidate.
